You have seen the one-off Lexus NX customised and designed by Grammy award-winning artist will.i.am. But how was it made? Lexus Europe has released an exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of how the bespoke Lexus NX went from the drawing board to the launch stage.
“I used to dream of having a Lexus,” said the Black Eyed Peas frontman, often known as the “multifaceted entertainer and creative innovator”. The widebody Lexus NX is a collaboration between will.i.am and Lexus on provocative design and technology as part of the Lexus Striking Angles campaign.
“The NX is a beautiful car. But it also leaves room for people’s imagination to float,” comment will.i.am on the design process. “Working with the designers to enhance the NX…we took the classic design and we enhanced it…I’m so happy with the outcome.”
The NX is Lexus’ first entry into the premium compact SUV segment, featuring an edgy and emotional design. The unique will.i.am-designed Lexus NX takes things to the eleven with a customised matte pearl white exterior paintwork, flared front and rear fenders, black-tinted panoramic glass roof, rear spoiler and massive 22-inch luminous black machined wheels. The widebody Lexus NX also sits closer to the ground thanks to lowered suspension, and the orange brake calipers further add to its aggressive looks.
Inside, will.i.am’s vision takes the form of a monochrome colour scheme with distinctive combination of brushed aluminium and contrasting soft materials. The modified seats are upholstered in soft Nappa leather, specified by will.i.am and hand-embroidered with his willpower logo. The brushed aluminium floor mats are also to his personal specification.
