Some of you may recall that last month, a 51,000-tonne car carrier named Hoegh Osaka was deliberately run aground on sandbank in the Solent off the Isle of Wight after it developed problems and started listing.

The 180 meters-long and 32 meters-wide cargo ship was carrying approximately 1,400 luxury cars and twenty-five crewmembers when it run aground and spent 19 days listing at 52-degrees.

Now the ship has been re-floated and towed back to the port where most of the cars were being driven off the ship.

As you can see in the video below, a number of cars are likely to be total write off where they had to be lifted off due to water and panel damage. Some though, only had minor dents and were driven off the ship.

The cars are mainly Land Rovers, MINI’s and Jaguars, but also a smaller number of Porsches as well as a Rolls Royce Wraith. Besides the vehicles, there are 105 pieces of construction equipment on board as well. All in all, they are worth approximately £60 million!

We are not sure what will be the fate of the salvaged vehicles, but a BMW Group spokeswoman reportedly told the BBC “the cars would be assessed once they had been taken from the ship”.
