Gazoo Racing presents widebody Toyota 86

The Toyota 86 has always been the darling of the tuning world, and the recently unveiled second-generation model looks set to continue that trend.

First to have a play with the rear-wheel drive sports car is none other than Toyota’s in-house tuning arm Gazoo Racing. Collaborating with Toyota’s motorsport arm Toyota Racing Development (TRD), Gazoo Racing is introducing a wide body Toyota 86, complete with track goodies.

The front bumper gains a splitter and side carnards, while the factory rear bumper has been ditched to make way for a completely new design that is beefier and fitted with a rear diffuser.

Widened fenders all around wrap upsized wheels measuring 19-inch, with chunkier side skirts adding to the 86’s aggressive stance. Topping off the package is a towering rear GT spoiler.

While it isn’t obvious if there have been any mechanical upgrades, one thing clearly visible are the quad exhaust tips, which should give performance a bump.

Jointly developed with Subaru, the Toyota 86 is powered a Subaru-sourced FA24 2.4-litre naturally aspirated boxer engine (that also powers the new Subaru BRZ) producing 170kW of power and 249Nm of torque. Both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions are available.
