Check out this 552kW HPA Volkswagen Golf R [video]

In its stock form the Volkswagen Golf R is no slouch. At its heart lies a 206kW 2.0-litre, 4 cylinder turbo engine, capable of propelling the hatch from 0-100km/h in just 5 seconds.

While plenty fast for most, the insane Canadians over at HPA Motorsport turned this unassuming grocery getter into a menacing supercar beater capable of outrunning a Lamborghini SV.

HPA managed this incredibly feat by engine swapping the stock 2.0-litre for a 3.6-litre V6 from a Passat R36. In turn the Golf gained twin hybrid turbochargers, a strengthened seven-speed DSG transmission from an Audi TT RS and upgraded brakes.

The Golf R now outputs 552kW with 949Nm of torque channelled through all-four wheels. HPA claims the car can accelerate from 0-97km/h (0-60mph) in an astonishing 2.8 seconds, easily outpacing most supercars on the road.

What’s best about this build is its drivability, HPA claims it will drive like it just came out of the factory, perfect for grocery getting or a track day.

HPA hasn’t indicated how much the build costs them, however, the donor driveline components, along with tune, bodykit and rebuilt gearbox would easily put it in the tens of thousands.
