Volkswagen Polo Beats out 300 Killer Watts

Volkswagen’s new ‘volume’ car, the Polo 6 beats with its bespoke 300 watt sound system, arrives in showrooms this August priced from $22,490 plus on-road costs.

“The new Polo 6 transcends the so-called ‘city’ or ‘light car’ class, so the ante for the Polo beats has been upped considerably,” Volkswagen Group Australia Managing Director Michael Bartsch says.

“We hear a great deal about carmakers pursuing a ‘younger’ demographic. This usually amounts to a basic car in jellybean colours. We don’t have to make a noise about the Polo beats because its message to aspirational buyers is loud d clear.

“Developing 300 watts of sound and 200Nm from a single litre engine, the Polo beats strikes the balance between bass and pace. There is nothing comparable.”

The beats brand was founded in 2006 by Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine and acquired by Apple in 2014. The sound system in the Polo Beats is said to have been exclusively designed for Volkswagen to provide reverberating but crystalline sound. It is one feature of the successor to the Polo 5 beats, which rapidly sold out on introduction last year.

Based on the Polo 85TSI  Comfortline, with its 1.0-litre three cylinder turbo petrol engine, the Polo beats also features the debut of the Volkswagen’s second generation Active Info display digital instrumentation panel. Now on a 10.25-inch screen which can be configured with a choice of readouts and full screen map.

Lurid shades are eschewed for a choice of three classic hues (no cost red, optional white/silver metallic or deep pearl black) set off by a single stripe on the bonnet, unique badging, decorative dash inserts, two-tone uphosltery and 16-inch alloys.

The optional Driver Assistance Pack contains Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor and Park  Assist.
