Video: Nissan sets Guinness World Record with Patrol towing a plane

Nissan has established a new Guinness World Record for towing the heaviest aircraft with a production vehicle.

The company set the record in the United Arab Emirates with its latest Patrol 4WD. The driver behind the wheel was able to pull a 170.9 ton (155,038kg) cargo plane for 50 metres at the Sharjah International Airport.

Apart from a specially-made hitch to tow the gargantuan aircraft, the Nissan Patrol used to set the record was completely stock from the factory, including its 5.6-litre V8 petrol engine that generates 298kW @ 5,800 and 560Nm of torque @ 4,000rpm. The Patrol is driven by a 7-speed automatic transmission and an All MODE 4×4 system with electronic 4WD selection.
