The Skoda Octavia RS has been launched in Australia as a sedan and wagon. Available in both petrol and diesel, the Octavia RS is priced from $36,490 plus on-road costs for the 162kW RS sedan manual.

Sporting the same 162kW/350Nm EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injected petrol engine from the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the third-generation Octavia RS will sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds. It is 17 percent more fuel efficient compared to the previous model, consuming a combined average of 6.4L/100km of fuel when paired with a 6-speed manual. A 6-speed DSG is available as a $2,300 option and consumes 0.2L/100km more of fuel.

Priced from $39,790, the Octavia RS Diesel is powered by a 135kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel mated exclusively to a 6-speed DSG transmission. It will dash from 0-100km/h in 8.3 seconds and consumes a combined average of 5.3L/100km of diesel.

All variants come standard with an engine start-stop system and brake energy recuperation.

Compared to the standard Octavia sedan and wagon, the RS sits 12mm and 13mm lower respectively, thanks to its lowered sports suspension. Like the closely related, but more expensive Volkswagen Golf GTI, the Octavia RS is equipped with a progressive steering for the first time.

The car’s Electronic Stability Control now comes with ESC Sport mode, which switches off the Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) and allows the ESC to react later. Other standard safety features include the multi-collision brake and XDL extended electronic differential lock, tyre pressure control and nine airbags.

Outside, the Octavia RS can be distinguished by a sportier front grille and bumper with new apron and fog lights. For the first time, bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights are standard. At the other end, twin split tailpipes and a rear boot lid spoiler are tell-tale signs of the RS.

Inside, the newly designed RS sport seats are available in a standard fabric and leather trim combination, or an optional Alcantara leather-appointed trim with red contrast stitching. the RS also receives a sporty three-spoke steering wheel with perforated leather and an instrument cluster with a colour multi function display. There are plenty of RS emblems in the interior as well.
