Peugeot Onyx Concept leaked ahead of Paris Motor Show

The 2012 Paris Motor Show is shaping up to be a cracker, with a heap of world debuts planned by various manufacturers. The image you see here is supposed to be one of the debuts earmarked for the show by Peugeot but has been leaked a few weeks before the show.

Called the Peugeot Onyx concept, the futuristic sports car features a compressed Peugeot grille with LED lights, as well as wrap-around bronze coloured front guards and doors.

The coupé’s advanced design is carried to the back of the vehicle where blacked out tail-lights blends seamlessly into the aerodynamic body, with integrated diffuser.

According to some of our sources, the Onyx is powered by a hybrid 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine good for 188kW, coupled with an 88kW electric motor.

Inside, the driver is greeted with a cockpit more reminiscent of a space craft than an automobile. There is a small carbon fibre steering wheel that sits in front of a digital instrument cluster and, no seats. Yup, that’s because the seats are moulded into the frame of the car.

The Onyx concept will almost certainly be the crowd puller at the Peugeot stand at the Paris Motor Show which starts 29 September.
