Nissan Ariya electric SUV first look: 600km range, 5-second to 100km/h

Nissan’s first ever all-electric SUV has been officially revealed today, bringing electric mobility to the mainstream mid-size crossover segment.

Available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive configuration, the Nissan Ariya is capable of up to 610km of guilt-free range in the highest capacity front-wheel drive variant.

It’s no slouch either, with the top-spec all-wheel-drive model sprinting from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds thanks to 290kW of power and 600Nm of torque derived from its twin electric motors.

In terms of styling, the futuristic Ariya presents Nissan’s new design language with highly contoured body panels and a floating roof design.

On the inside, Nissan took advantage of the car’s EV platform, which allows for a flat floor, and its compact climate control components to give the Ariya the a spacious cabin. The lounge-like interior provides a welcoming and comfortable environment for driver and passengers alike.

The Ariya is also said to be the most technologically advanced Nissan car to date. The ProPILOT 2.0 semi-autonomous driving system and ProPILOT Remote Park and e-Pedal features are standard across the Ariya line-up, along with Nissan’s Safety Shield system which includes Around View Monitor, Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Braking and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking technology.

The all-new Nissan Ariya is scheduled to go on sale in its native Japan in mid-2021 priced from around 5 million yen, which in today’s conversion equals to around $66,000 Australian dollars. The Ariya is also set to go on sale in Europe, North America and China by the end of 2021, with Australian introduction yet to be confirmed.
