Mercedes has unveiled the SLC roadster ahead of its debut at the North American International Auto Show.

The SLC is essentially a facelifted SLK with a new nameplate, as Mercedes streamlines its decking order based on the C-, E- and S-class. Visual changes for the new SLC include a redesigned front bumper, updated diamond grille and new headlights. The rear gets new bumper, LED taillights and revised dual exhaust system.

The interior is largely carried over with subtle changes to the instrument cluster and trim. There’s the new steering wheel and new leather and Nappa leather upholstery.

At launch in 2016, two engines will be available. The entry-level SLC300 is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 179kW and 369Nm. Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the SLC300 sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Moving up, the SLC43 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine that serves up 270kW and 520Nm, with a 0-100km/h time of 4.7 seconds.

All variants are now equipped with Mercedes’ Dynamic Select as standard, a system which allows driver to choose from Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Eco and Individual driving modes.
