Mercedes-Benz AMG GT realistically imagined

Mercedes-Benz’s new supercar, the AMG GT (or SLC as its name is as yet unconfirmed) is still around a year away from making its official debut. However, with recent spy shots of the car, Italian publication, Quattroroute magazine, has created a render of how the car may look.

Sporting the SLS’s signature long bonnet and large upright grille, the coupé looks enticingly accurate. Unlike the SLS AMG, the AMG GT will be repositioned to rival the venerable Porsche 911 and next-generation Audi R8.

It is expected to run a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in place of the soon to be missed naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 howler in the current SLS AMG. Output is likely to be competitive with its rivals as well, ranging from 400 – 570hp (298kW – 425kW), depending on the variant. It will be matched with AMG’s 7-speed dual-clutch transmission mounted on the rear axle for optimal weight distribution.

With a diet of aluminium construction, reduction in the size of the car and the elimination of the trademark gull-wing doors, the AMG GT is set to tip the scale at under 1,500kg – 200kg lighter than the outgoing SLS AMG. Accordingly, it is set to accomplish th century sprint in under four seconds and have a top speed of more than 300km/h.
