Video: McLaren and Forza Motorsport’s ‘FilmSpeed’

If you’re a Gen X or older, you’d probably remember the flip books, where a bunch of photos are drawn on successive pages, and when you flip through them, an animated scene springs into life. Much like how they used to make cartoons.

Well, McLaren and Forza Motorsport 5 are working together create a flip book-style animation from a series of still images from the video game erected on the perimeter of a track, and capturing them on a camera mounted on a McLaren MP4-12C. The driver then drives the car up to 120mph.

The result is this mesmerising animation that blends the real world with the gaming world as he speeds past the images. Brilliant!

McLaren and Forza Motorsport are calling this creative flip book ‘FilmSpeed’. Click play in the video below and watch it for yourself.
