Mazda will build the RX Vision if the world wants it

Mazda says the company is ready to build the RX Vision if the world wants it.

Speaking to Top Gear at the Concorso d’Eleganza where Mazda is showcasing their striking RX Vision concept, Mazda’s Design Director, Kevin Rice said the company wasn’t expecting so much positive attention on the concept.

“We were overwhelmed with the reaction to the RX Vision,” explains Kevin. “Inside Mazda, we all love the car, but to see the reaction of the people here at Villa – car fanatics of the highest level – and for them to be impressed has kind of shocked us. In a good way.”

When asked when Mazda will finally green light the concept for production, Rice simply smiled and said: “We’d love to build it.”

The catch of course, is the rotary powertrain. As is, the concept is purely a design study minus any running gear. However, Mazda has admitted previously that there is a small dedicated engineering team working on the rotary engine within the company for the past eight years.

“Nobody else would have developed the rotary engine,” says Kevin. “We thought we could get something good out of it, which we did, but we never stopped developing it. We didn’t just leave it with the RX-8. In the back rooms at Mazda, we’re still developing it, and when the world’s ready to buy another rotary, we’ll be ready to provide it.”

So, if you want Mazda to build the RX-Vision, the ball is in your court. Post your comments below or on our Facebook page if you want your voice heard…
