Hyundai Veloster SR Turbo lands in Australia

Hyundai Motors Australia has today announced the pricing of the Veloster SR Turbo. Continuing its tradition of value proposition, the top of the range turbocharged Veloster starts from A$31,990.

The Korean company has bolted a twin-scroll turbocharger to the Veloster’s 1.6-litre 4-cylinder direct injected engine, resulting in 150kW of power and 265Nm of torque in the SR Turbo. That equates to 46% more power and 60% more torque compared to the naturally aspirated unit found in the Veloster.

A six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox with steering wheel mounted shift paddles transfers power to the car’s front wheels.

The Veloster SR Turbo also sits on recalibrated suspensions and has uprated ventilated front disc brakes which are 20mm larger than the non-turbo Veloster’s 280mm brakes. Another dynamic enhancement includes unique calibration to the motor-driven power steering and a quicker rack (2.78 turns lock to lock).

Visually,  the Veloster SR Turbo can be differentiated from  ‘lesser’ Velosters via a more aggressive front grille with round front fog lamps, rear spoiler, a unique rear diffuser with twin circular exhaust outlets and 18” alloy wheels with chrome inserts. A panoramic glass sunroof is also standard.

Inside, the Veloster SR Turbo is fitted with leather/leatherette sports bucket seats and Hyundai’s satellite navigation system is integrated into the 7” touch screen LCD display. The system incorporates SUNA live traffic, lane guidance, junction views, speed limits, speed warnings and camera alerts and includes a complimentary three–year NAVTEQ MapCare plan.

The Veloster SR Turbo is available in one trim level. It can be ordered with exclusive Chameleon or Matte paint option. As the name suggests, the chameleon paint changes colour depending on the visual angle.
