Hyundai unwraps 220kW Veloster Midship concept

Hyundai has today taken the covers off the Veloster Midship concept at the 2014 Busan International Motor Show.

Developed in-house by Hyundai’s High Performance Team, who was also responsible for the i20 WRC in its initial form, the two-seater Veloster Midship concept is based on the road-going Veloster (pictured below) and is fully driveable.

Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-litre Theta GDI engine generating 220kW. It boasts lightweight aluminium suspension, a high-rigidity chassis and a mid-engined (RM: rear midship) “mini-supercar” layout.

The engine is located behind the occupants and within the wheelbase, offering ideal weight distribution and handling balance through corners.

At this stage, the Midship is a concept only designed to explore the possibilities of the Veloster chassis. There are no plans for production.
