Hyundai has unveiled the updated i30 N, which comes with a refined design, added driver assistance and safety features, and retuned suspension. But the biggest news is the addition of a dual-clutch transmission variant, designed to broaden the appeal of the i30 N.
Let’s explore further the differences between the old and the new i30 N models.
Design
As before, the new i30 N is available in both hatchback and fastback body types. The updated front fascia sports new LED headlamps with V-shaped daytime running lights, as well as new grille and bumper. Changes to the rear are more subtle and include restyled taillights and larger diffuser for the rear bumper.
Newly-developed five-double-spoke 19-inch forged alloy wheels replace the current casted alloy wheels, reducing unsprung mass by 14.4 kg in the process. The N logo has also been integrated onto the wheel caps. Coated in dark satin grey matte finish, the new wheels contrast well with the N-specific red brake callipers with N logo.
Interior
The dashboard gains a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
For the first time, the new i30 N comes with the option of N Light Seats, a set of lightweight, high-performance front seats designed to offer improved lateral support. These uniquely-designed monoform sport seats are 2.2 kg lighter than the standard seats, and are upholstered in premium leather and Alcantara materials. They also come with Performance Blue stitching and an illuminated N logo on an integrated headrest.
Engine
The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine now delivers 206kW at 5,200 rpm, an increase of 4kW over the previous powerplant. Peak torque has also increased by 39 Nm to 393 Nm, and maintained over a wider 1,950 and 4,600 rpm.
Paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed DCT, the new powertrain is capable of launching the i30 N from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 secs, an improvement of 0.2 seconds compared to the previous model.
Chassis
The suspension and steering systems have been retuned for tighter ride and handling, while the front brake disc size has been increased from 345mm to 360mm for improved braking performance.
Safety
Safety features for the new i30 N have been expanded to include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian detection, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Warning (hatchback only) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
The new i30 N will arrive in the first half of 2021, with local model line-up and pricing details announced closer to launch.
