2015’s Nurburgring 24 hours saw a crash that killed a spectator; as a result the German motorsport association (DMSB) has come to the conclusion that restrictions must be put in place to ensure cars don’t get faster and faster each year.

The restrictions apply to any cars in the SP-X, SP-Pro, SP9/GT3 and SP7 categories and will not only reduce power by 10% but also restrict aero to further slow down the speed of the drivers. An already confirmed aero restriction involves increasing the vehicles ride height.

The DMSB have also placed restrictions on tyre choice preventing manufacturers from supplying extreme tyre compounds to teams.

Despite the power restrictions being in place for next year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours, the previously imposed speed limits will be lifted for the 2016 season.
