Datsun To Rise Again

For those of you who remember the Datsun brand, it will be resurrected by parent company Nissan. The brand was put into hibernation in the early 80s when the Japanese company changed its name to Nissan. It will however drop its rising sun logo in favour of a more comteparary design.

As the Nissan brand matures, the company sees an opportunity to bring back the Datsun name to tap into high growth emerging markets such as India, Indonesia and Russia.

Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn announced in Indonesia this week that the brand will be set up for the production of cost-effective, entry-level vehicles for emerging markets.

“Datsun will provide sustainable motoring experience to optimistic up-and-coming customers in high-growth markets. Datsun represents 80 years of accumulated Japanese car making expertise and is an important part of Nissan’s DNA.”

Datsun’s range of vehicles is set to hit the markets in 2014 and ‘matured’ markets like the US and Australia will unlikely see the reintroduction of the brand.

We just hope that classics like the Datsun 240Z will not be making a comeback or we will be missing out!
