BMW has released a teaser video of its next-generation G30 5 Series, which is set to make its online debut in the coming weeks.

You will have to be quick though to catch a glimpse of the new car as the minute long video only shows the car for a few seconds. However, it’s enough for us to see the new model’s LED taillights, which has adopted a more flowing and slightly thinner design compared to the current model.

The new BMW 5 Series will sit on BMW’s new CLAR platform that also underpins the 7 Series. Thanks to intensive use of aluminium, carbon fibre and high-strength steel, the new model is expected to shed at least 80kg over the current car.

Power will come from a range of 4-, 6- and 8-cylinder engines, with a plug-in hybrid model also expected.

A number of advanced technologies from the 7 Series will find their way into the 5 Series, including a range of autonomous driving functions, gesture control and laser headlights.
