BMW announces 1 Series Shadow Editions, here early 2019

BMW has confirmed the introduction of two blacked-out special versions of its 1 Series hatch for 2019 – the 118i and 125i Shadow Editions – which add extra kit and bring a tough new look at no extra cost.

Slated to hit showrooms early in the new year, the special 118i and 125i will be priced from $39,900 and $49,900 drive-away respectively – identical to what their regular counterparts retail for.

Both Shadow Edition variants receive a set of 18-inch alloys with either a Jet Black gloss or a black/silver diamond cut finish, and LED lighting package upgrade, a high-gloss black finish on the window surrounds rather than the standard chrome, and dark exterior highlights for the grille, headlight inserts, taillights, and tailpipes. The addition of the M Aerodynamics Package also adds to the aggressive new stance.

On the inside, the 125i gains leather upholstery as standard for the now-standard sports seats, while the 118i’s seats come clad in anthracite/grey cloth. A leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel is also added into the mix, along with a black headliner and a wireless phone charging tray.

Mechanically, both models remain the same, meaning the 118i still sports a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder producing 100kW and 220Nm, while the 125i sports a fruitier 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot with outputs of 165kW and 310Nm. The power in both is channelled to the rear wheels alone through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the new Shadow Edition 1 Series variants, BMW has also announced the introduction of the new Style Plus Package for all 118i and 125i models, which adds metallic paint and a sunroof to both, along with leather upholstery for the 118i and a Harman Kardon stereo for the 125i, for a $2,900 premium.
