Alfa Romeo’s long anticipated rival to the BMW 3 Series, the Giulia, is not due to hit motorshow floors until 2015, but here is an artist rendering of the Italian sports sedan, in high performance Quadrifoglio Verde form.
Envisioned by independent automotive designer Thorsten-Krisch, the Giulia concept combines styling elements from the Maserati Ghibli and Alfa Romeo Giulietta, as well as borrowing the rear diffuser of a Lexus RC F. The end result is a striking design we definitely hope to see in the production model.
Spearheaded by Fiat Group boss, Sergio Marchionne, the Guilia carries the heavy burden of the company’s revival plan. Together with the mid-engine 4C sports car and the reborn Spider, Sergio is committed to turn Alfa into a global premium brand.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia will fill the void left by the 159 and will utilise the third generation of the brand’s sophisticated ‘Compact’ platform, which also underpins the Giulietta hatchback.
The entry level Giulia is set to be powered by a 1.4-litre MultiAir engine generating 90kW (120hp/122PS). Chrysler’s (now owned by Fiat) Pentastar petrol V6, albeit with the addition of MultiAir, will also see duty in the Guilia.
The car will be front-wheel drive, while a four-wheel drive option will also be available. The latter is essential if Alfa was to successfully relaunch itself in North America.
