Alfa Romeo 4C Spider confirmed for November arrival

The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider has been confirmed for Australia. Arriving in November 2015, the open-top 4C Spider will join its hard-topped sibling launched last year.

Like the 4C coupé, the 4C Spider will feature a mid-engine layout and powered by an all-aluminium 1.8-litre direct-injection, dual intercooled, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 176kW – an impressive 101kW per litre, and 350Nm of torque. It is mated with Alfa’s TCT (twin-clutch transmission) driving the rear wheels.

The 4C Spider is capable of rushing from 0-100km/h in an estimated 4.1 seconds, on route to a top speed of 257km/h.

Lightweight is everything in the 4C Spider’s construction. Its monocoque chassis, at 107kg, is made entirely of unilateral, “pre-preg” carbon fibre layers that are hand-laid for extraordinary stiffness and strength. In fact, its three-times stronger and seven-times lighter than steel. It lightweight architecture is further enhanced with front- and rear-chassis structures and an engine-mounting frame made from lightweight aluminium.

The 4C Spider’s cockpit is purpose built with only the essential driving components stylistically integrated. Two composite-framed sport seats with standard leather and an exposed carbonfibre monocoque exemplify the 4C Spider’s race-inspired technologies.

Additionally, a driver-oriented cockpit with flat-bottom, leather performance steering wheel with paddle-shifters and aluminum pedals speak to the brand’s racing spirit.

The 4C Spider’s arrival comes at an exciting time for Alfa Romeo globally, with the brand set for a global relaunch in Milan, Italy, on June 24, where company Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne will unveil the next vehicle in Alfa Romeo’s new model line-up – the result of a staggering five-billion-Euro investment in design and engineering for the brand.

Pricing and specification for the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will be finalised closer to local launch.
