2017 Kia Optima Sportswagon unveiled

Kia has officially unveiled the Optima Sportswagon ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Previewed by last year’s SportSpace concept, the new model is Kia’s first D-segment tourer and features a unique rear end with a gently sloping roof and raked rear window.

The wide LED taillights wrap around the corners of the bodywork, while the rear bumper houses a single oval exhaust, unlike the twin pipes of its sedan counterpart.

The Sportswagon retains the same width (1,860mm) and length (4,855mm) as the sedan, but is 5mm taller (1,470mm) to accommodate the expanded boot. There is 553 litres of cargo space – 48 litres more than the Optima sedan.

Access to the boot is via a Smart Power Tailgate, which opens the boot automatically when the Optima’s smart key is located in close proximity to the rear tailgate.

Inside, the cabin is identical to the sedan and features a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation. DAB digital radio is also available across a number of European markets, where the car will go on sale in the 4th quarter of 2016.

European models are powered by three different engines:

The 2017 Kia Optima Sportswagon is not yet confirmed for Australia, with the local arm studying the business case for the model.
