2017 BMW 5 Series Pricing and Specification announced

The all-new seventh-generation BMW 5 Series has launched in Australia with a bump in price across the range compared to the previous model.

The four-tier line-up commences from $93,900 plus on-road costs for the range-opening turbo diesel 520d. The new pricing represents a hike of over $10,000 compared to the model it replaces but BMW justifies the premium with a boost in standard equipment level that is said to be worth around $15,500.

Propelled by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel producing 140kW and 400Nm of torque, the 520d launches from zero to 100km/h in 7.5 seconds, with an average claimed fuel consumption of 4.3L/100km.

The improved features list includes 18-inch wheels, keyless entry, leather upholstery, Navigation Professional through a 10.25-inch display, head-up display and wireless phone charging.

BMW 530d

The 530i, which replaces the 528i, slots in the middle of the range at $108,900 plus ORCs – an increase of almost $10,000. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 185kW and 350Nm of torque. It will hit 100km/h from a standstill in a claimed 6.2 seconds, while returning a combined fuel consumption of 5.8L/100km.

Standard equipment in the 530i includes an M Sport Package, 19-inch wheels, powered tailgate, adaptive LED headlights, dynamic dampers, 12.3-inch multi-function display and 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

The upper-spec diesel variant arrives in the form of the 530d priced from $119,900 plus ORCs with equipment levels matching the 530i. Power comes from a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel that generates 195kW and 620Nm of torque. It will accomplish 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.7 seconds, while combined consumption is rated at 4.5L/100km.

BMW 540i

The range-topping variant at launch is the $136,900 plus ORCs 540i, which uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six with 250kW and 450Nm of torque. It will do 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.1 seconds and return 6.7L/100km.

Standard equipment highlights in the 540i include Adaptive Drive with active anti-roll bars, 20-inch wheels, sunroof, electric rear window sunblind and front seats with ventilation and memory function.
