2015 Ford Focus range gains 132kW/240Nm 1.5L EcoBoost

The updated 2015 LZ Ford Focus range will usher in a new 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine along with SYNC2 connectivity, satellite navigation and rear view camera.

Importantly, select models will score key driver assistance technology including enhanced Active City Stop, Blind Spot Information System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Standard across the LZ Focus range is a new fuel-efficient 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine with Auto-Stop start engine technology that replaces the old 2.0-litre Duratec engine. The 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine develops 132 kW and 240 Nm (7kW and 38Nm more than the old engine) and will be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic transmission is standard on Trend Sedan and Titanium Hatch and Sedan and optional on the Trend Hatch and Sport Hatch.

It returns a claimed combined fuel consumption of 5.8L/100km and 6.4L/100km, depending on the model.

The 2015 range also offers Ford’s acclaimed MyKey system as well as key driver assistance technology that has been standardised across select models.

MyKey is an industry-first technology that allows parents to program a key that limits top speed, reduce maximum radio volume, disables the radio until the seatbelts are fastened and prevents deactivation of the driver assistance and safety technologies. It works by recognising different keys for the same car and adjusting the vehicle settings according to the owner’s requirements.

It works by recognising different keys for the same car and adjusting the vehicle settings according to the owner’s requirements. Apart from the 2015 Focus, MyKey is available on the Fiesta, Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Mondeo range and will be available on the soon-to-be-released Mustang.
Apart from the active and passive safety features available on the 2015 LZ Ford Focus, there are a range of new driver assistance features. Blind Spot Information System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are new additions on the Focus Titanium, along with an enhanced Active City Stop system as standard. A standard feature on the Titanium Hatch and Sedan, Rear Cross Traffic Alert warns drivers reversing from parking spaces if other vehicles are about to cross their path.

On Titanium models Ford’s Active City Stop collision avoidance system has been enhanced and now operates at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Active City Stop readies the brakes if a potential impact is detected and – if the driver does not respond – will automatically apply the brakes.

Also featuring on Titanium models is Enhanced Active Park Assist featuring Perpendicular Parking, which enables drivers to detect suitably-sized parallel parking spaces and reverse hands-free into spaces parallel to the road and side-to-side with other vehicles.

This advanced parking feature is supported by both Park-Out Assist, which helps drivers to exit parallel parking spaces; and Side Parking Aid, which delivers an on-screen visual representation and audible warning of obstacles to the sides of the vehicle, as well as to the front and rear.
A full suite of airbags and advanced high strength, ultra lightweight boron steel creates a super strong safety cage to complete the safety story.

Ford says the 2015 Ford Focus has improved dynamics, thanks to improved and stiffer front end, revised suspension, retuned shock absorbers, retuned electric power steering and new Dynamic Stability Control calibration.

As well as dynamic improvements, the exterior of the revised 2015 LZ Focus range has received a number of key visual enhancements to build on its already stylish and contemporary design.

The 2015 LZ Focus gains a more sophisticated, sleek design that reflects the One Ford global design language for passenger cars. This now harmonises the LZ Focus design with the Fiesta and Mondeo range.

The front of the car sports Ford’s new corporate grille, slimmer headlights, new bonnet and front bumper.

At the rear Ford designers have reshaped the tailgate, refined the surface language and added lower profile tail-lamps to give the rear of the Focus a more toned, athletic look. Sport and Titanium models also receive a unique sports bodykit comprising side skirts, front and rear bumper extensions and a large rear spoiler.

When redesigning the interior, Ford listened to customer feedback and responded with a more intuitive driver layout, complemented by a new steering wheel design and central stack with fewer controls and switches.

Ford has also added more sound insulation materials in the doors, and carpets. The front wheel-arches have been designed to ensure a quieter cabin at highway speeds.
