Volkswagen Australia has launched its stylish new Arteon in Australia, available in as single, high-specification 206TSI R-Line that promises a level of technology usually seen in prestige brands, including a Head-up Display said to be a first for Volkswagen.

“Democratising German technology is the key to fulfilling our target of being the Premium for the People brand. Moreover, unlike some SUVs and comparable cars from German prestige brands, the Arteon is made in Europe.”

Mr Wilks says that the only options on the Arteon will be metallic or pearl effect paint, panoramic glass sunroof and Dynaudio Premium Sound System with 20- inch Rosario Alloys (as seen in the accompanying images).

While the Arteon is brimmed with kit, it also comes with a practical wide-opening hatch hinged at the top, giving access to the 563-litre luggage compartment. Its wheelbase and body is 50mm and 95mm longer, respecitvely than the Passat on which it is based, translating to longer legroom (+45mm).

The Volkswagen Arteon 206TSI R-Line deploys the brand’s 2.0-litre turbo petrol four which realises 206kW between 5700-6500rpm and 350Nm from 1800-5600rpm. Driven through the new DQ381 7-speed wet-clutch DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive transmission, it reaches 100-km/h from standing in a claimed 5.6 seconds.
