Rear-wheel drive 2018 Kia GT is Kia’s fastest car, ever

Kia has released a teaser video of its upcoming, rear-wheel drive 2018 Kia GT, along with the claim that it is the fastest-accelerating Kia ever. How fast? Try 5.1 seconds.

It should be pointed out though, the time was recorded at Kia’s test track adjacent to the Namyang R&D centre in South Korea and is a pre-homologation development target. Nevertheless, the production model shouldn’t stray far from this figure.

In the previously released teaser below, we know that the car has a top speed of 244km/h.

When it reaches production, the Kia GT is expected to be motivated by a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with the range-topper featuring a biturbo 3.3-litre V6 generating around 272kW and 509Nm of torque.

The shadowy silhouette of the car in the video also reinforces our believe the Kia K8 – expected to be its name in South Korea – spied last week is the real deal.

Kia rear-wheel drive sports sedan will make its official debut on 8 January 2017.
