Ford’s tuning partner, Mountune, has announced its tuning kit for the new Focus RS after completing development at the Nürburgring.
The Phase 1 kit is said to give the hot hatch more power and extra potential for future chassis modifications. As the name suggests, the Phase 1 kit is the first of several stages planned for the Focus RS.
Mountune adds a power upgrade has already been developed and signed off for a later package, believed to boost the Focus RS’s output towards 294kW – considerably higher than the car’s standard output of 257kW/440Nm.
The Phase 1 brings a set of 19-inch OZ Racing Leggera HLT wheels, which are 2.8kg lighter than the stock wheels and 1.7kg lighter than the optional factory forged wheels.
The wheels are half an inch wider than the factory alternatives, not only giving the car wider tracks for improved stability but also extra space to facilitate any larger aftermarket brake kits. Additionally, Mountune offers a set of optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres to go with the wheels.
Underneath the bonnet, the tuner has upgraded the car’s intake system, with new high-flow induction hoses and a boost hose upgrade kit. According to Mountune, these wire-reinforced parts are not only more rigid than the standard plastic items but are also more resistant to heat damage, as they have been tested to 250oC – approximately 70oC higher than what is required by the standard car.
On top of that, owners can now order a Mountune-supplied Quaife ATB differential that uses a gear-based system – as opposed to clutch plates – which is said to offer smoother performance and improved traction. Owners will also be glad to hear the diff will make the car’s Drift Mode even easier to use.
Finally, the Phase 1 kit includes a polyurethane roll restrictor, which is claimed to reduce the rocking of the engine and gearbox during hard acceleration and improve response times, while a billet short-shift arm is said to reduce gear lever throw by 25%.
