Hennessey Performance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 makes over 1,000hp

There is no replacement for displacement, a statement still rings true for this Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. And it’s no ordinary Camaro. Tweaked by Texas-based Hennessey Performance, this Camaro is named “The Exorcist”, appropriately so, as the 6.2-litre V8 LT4 engine under the bonnet sings to the tune of 1,014 horsepower and 1,310Nm. That’s an insane 756kW melting at its crank.

The added punch comes from an upsized supercharger feeding the V8 with reworked cylinder heads, upgraded camshaft, improved air intake system and higher flow stainless steel exhaust manifold. A remapped ECU ensures every last drop of performance is extracted from the upgrades, lifting power from the factory’s already impressive 478kW and 881Nm.

Hennessey Performance claims its Camaro can do the 0 to 100km/h sprint in less than 3 seconds and the quarter mile in under 10 seconds. That’s in the same territory as the LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1. In comparison the standard car stops the clock to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds and ¼ mile in 11.4 seconds.

Like the standard Camaro ZL1, the Hennessey Camaro drives the rear wheels only and is available with either a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic gearbox. It features Magnetic Ride Control adjustable dampers, Performance Traction Management, 20-inch alloys shod with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tyres, Brembo brakes, full underbody shielding, ZL1-specific rear spoiler and diffuser, as well as 11 heat exchangers.
