2019 Shelby GT unveiled with over 515kW

Shelby America has unwrapped its new 2019 Shelby GT which will make its debut in conjunction with the Woodward Dream Cruise. Based on the Ford Mustang GT, the car will feature a number of modifications and offered in both fastback and convertible variants.

On the styling front, the Shelby GT gains a tweaked front fascia incorporating a “deep draw” bonnet with prominent vents and unique front grille, new side skirts, rear spoiler, side stripes and a set of 20-inch wheels.

Inside, the cabin is largely unchanged except for extra badging, special floor mats and numbered plagues on the dash and engine.

Shelby is also offering a number of options including the Shelby Premium Package that brings restyled front bumper and illuminated door sill plates, as well as the GT-H or Heritage package that celebrates the inspiration for the Shelby GT. The Shelby GT-H comes in either black or white and is matched with gold stripes and optional gold wheels.

Underneath, the Shelby GT gets new springs and sway bars supplied by Ford Performance, as well as a Borla cat-back exhaust and new caster camber plates. Ticking the above two options will also net you a set of new front struts and rear shocks.

Additionally, customers can specify the Shelby Heavy Duty Package which brings an “extreme” radiator with a new coolant tank, wheel studs and performance half-shaft.

Those wanting even more could ask for the Ford Performance supercharger that bumps the 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8’s output to over 515kW along with painted stripes.

In terms of pricing, it starts at US$61,345 ($A84,018) for the standard Shelby GT, and at least another US$66,345 ($A90,866) for the optional Heritage and Premium packages.
