Volkswagen issues recall for 25,000 cars in Australia

Volkswagen has issued a recall for 25,928 vehicles sold in Australia fitted with 7-speed DSG gearbox (DQ200). The vehicles affected include Golf, Jetta, Polo, Passat and Caddy and were produced between June 2008 and September 2011.

The recall came after a string of mechanical faults that plagued the German car maker in recent months, with concerned customers demanding their cars to be checked and fixed.

The problem stems from an electronic malfunction in the transmission control unit, which may result in a power loss while driving. The fault however does not affect other critical systems such as steering and braking, along with other relevant systems, which will continue to function as normal and allow the driver to safely manoeuvre the car to a stop.

All Volkswagen vehicles currently being produced and sold are not affected by this issue.

The faulty components on affected vehicles will be replaced by Volkswagen at no cost to the customer. At the same time, Volkswagen will also update customers’ vehicles with the latest software version.

Volkswagen says it will send out invitation letters to schedule appointments for inspection and replacement of affected parts in batches to owners according to car model, production date and the supply necessary parts. The company has also advised that owners can continue to drive their vehicles as usual before the replacement.

Owners can also call Customer Service hotline on 1800 504 076 for any technical inquiries.
