Video: 2014 Volkswagen Golf R unleashed on track

Volkswagen has release a new promotional video and new photos of the 2014 Volkswagen Golf R.

The ultimate Golf is expected to make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that develops 221kW (300HP) and 380Nm of torque, the all-wheel drive hot-hatch will sprint from a standstill to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds when paired with the optional 6-speed DSG gearbox, and 5.1 seconds with the manual.

Compared to the run-of-the-mill Golf, the R sports an aggressive body kit with deep front air intakes, revised side skirts and a rear diffuser. The twin centrally-mounted tailpipes have made way for quad-exhaust for that angrier look.

Standard equipment on board include the newly developed progressive steering, bi-xenon headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 225/45 tyres.

The 2014 Volkswagen Golf R will hit showrooms later this year in Europe. Australian deliveries will start towards the middle of 2014.
