Suzuki Swift Sedan for the Australian market?

Suzuki has been toying with the idea of a sedan version of its popular Swift compact car for years. And now it’s finally here. Well, not in Australia, yet, but in India. Called the Swift Desire, the compact sedan complements the Swift hatchback in the Indian market.

Taking on the Mazda2 sedan, Honda City, Toyota Yaris sedan and Nissan Almera, the Swift Desire is based on the same platform as its hatchback stablemate and is powered by either a 1.2-litre petrol or 1.3-litre turbodiesel engine. A 5 speed manual transmission is standard while a 5 speed automatic is optional.

The Suzuki Desire sedan is manufactured in India for both domestic and selected export markets. If a sedan version of the Swift is ever heading our way it will most likely be built in the company’s Thailand factory, which currently manufactures the Swift hatchback.

So, what do you think? Should Suzuki bring the Swift sedan Down Under? Tell us in the comments below.
