Renault Clio updated for 2017 with new packaging and sharper pricing

The sporty Renault Clio small hatchback has been updated with more features and a sharp new price for 2017.

Arriving in Australia this month, the new-look Clio takes on Renault’s new nomenclature, in-line with the recently released Koleos crossover and Megane hatch models. The simplified line-up includes the entry-level Life, available with a manual transmission or EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) gearbox and the upper specs Zen, Intens and GT-Line with EDC only. The drivetrain remains unchanged and the updated Clio R.S. performance flagship will launch in Q3 this year.

“The award-winning Clio is one of Renault’s most well-known nameplates around the world,” said Mr Justin Hocevar, Renault Australia’s Managing Director. “Clio is one of our core models in Australia and continues to be one of our strongest selling vehicles.

“Despite diminishing stock of the outgoing model, sales kicked off strongly on Clio already this year, which is set to continue given its reputation for appealing design and attractive interior packaging. Now that we’ve added more features, new technology and a sharp price, on top of our excellent five-year warranty and capped price service programme, Clio is an even better value proposition,” Mr Hocevar said.

Pricing ranges from $17,990 driveaway for the Life variant with manual transmission to $24,990 for the top-spec GT-Line EDC.

Like before, two powertrains are offered – TCe 90 and TCe120. The TCe 90 is the first three-cylinder engine to be produced by Renault. It is equipped with Stop&Start and generates 66kW @ 5,250rpm and 135Nm of torque @ 2,500rpm. Mated with a 5-speed manual transmission, its multipoint sequentially injected petrol engine returns a combined fuel consumption of 4.5L/100km.

The more powerful TCe120 is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder direct injected turbocharged petrol that generates 88kW @ 4,900rpm and 190Nm @ 2,000rpm. It is paired exclusively with a 6-speed EDC automatic. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.2L/100km.

Exterior changes on the Life variant include body coloured door mirrors and handles, a chrome boot lid strip, chrome door sill insert and chrome trim radiator grille as well as a new 16 inch flex wheel design.

Inside, the Life variant adds features including hands-free entry with smartkey, push button start, automatic dusk-sensing headlights and automatic windscreen wipers with rain sensor, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, ECO mode, electric windows (all positions) and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Stepping up to the Zen sees the addition of Renault’s new C-shaped lighting signature – as seen in the Koleos and Megane – at the front with LED headlights, front fog light with a chrome surround, front parking sensors, satellite navigation with voice control, a gloss black treatment for the lower rear bumper trim, side door protection and B-pillar as well as two-tone 16 inch Pulsize alloy wheels.

The luxurious Intens model gains chrome window trim, side parking sensors, hands-free parking, driver’s armrest, LED cabin lights, 3D Arkamys sound system, R-LINK navigation and multimedia system with voice control, height adjustable passenger’s seat, velvet and artificial leather upholstery, climate control, rear privacy glass and 17 inch Optemic two-tone alloy wheels.

Intens owners can also opt for a series of free personalisation. For the exterior, the door sill insert, grille insert and boot lid can be either Flame Red or Ivory, while inside, the dashboard, door panel and seat highlights can be either Intense Red or Grey.

The range-topping GT-Line receives Renault Sport-inspired blue highlights for the upholstery, aluminium sport pedals, GT-Line badging, Renault Sport rear spoiler, leather handbrake handle, satin grey for the door mirrors, exterior trim, front and rear bumper insert as well as 17 inch Serdar alloy wheels.
