Renault has released a teaser image that hints at a new, more hardcore version of the Renaultsport Mégane RS model capable of potentially demolishing the sub-8 minute Nürburgring lap time.

The French company used to hold the title for the fastest front-wheel drive production car to lap the Nürburgring, until it was lost to the Seat Leon Cupra 280 recently, which managed the feat in 7 minutes and 58.4 seconds.

Posted on the Renaultsport Facebook page, the image features an Akrapovic exhaust system and has a cryptic phrase ‘Under8’ in the form of a social media hashtag on the lower left corner of the teaser.

While the company is tight-lipped on which model it will use for its latest record breaking attempt – expected to take place in mid-June – the new model is likely to be based on the Renaultsport Mégane RS Trophy once again.

As you can see from the teaser above, the car will also be shot in Michelin tyres and features suspension from Swedish-based Ohlins. The hardcore RS could go on sale in Europe later this year.
