Lexus has launched the facelifted IS sports sedan in Australia today on the backdrop of one million global sales of the 3 Series and C-Class rival. The new IS range is expected to assist Lexus achieve a new all-time sales record in Australia of more than 9,000 deliveries.

The substantial improvements are across the board of the three Lexus IS models, each available in three grades with enhancement packages to help owners personalise their vehicles.

Lexus Australia chief executive Peter McGregor said the upgrades brought new levels of driver engagement, styling, luxury and convenience.

“Every improvement on the new Lexus IS Line has been made with the aim of enhancing the owner, driver and occupant experience,” Mr McGregor said.

“It is a typically thoughtful response to the requirement of continual improvement in everything Lexus undertakes.”

Highlighting the new update are eight exterior styling changes and 15 within the cockpit as well as major improvements to the display audio screen and the Lexus sound system.

The entire IS range now also incorporates the complete suite of the Lexus Safety System+ technology which includes Lane Departure Warning, sway warning system and automatic high beam.

These features are in addition to the existing pre-collision safety system with autonomous emergency braking, active cruise control and hill-start assist control. F Sport and Sports Luxury are also equipped with blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.

The updated Lexus IS carries over the existing powertrain line-up, which includes the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the IS 200t, 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid setup in the IS 300h and 3.5-litre V6 petrol unit in the IS 350.

All three variants are available in Luxury, F Sport and Sports Luxury grades with varying degrees of specification according to owner requirement.

Headlining the exterior styling changes is a new front fascia even bolder than before with new headlights, redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes and an evolution of Lexus’ signature spindle grille.

The grille now folds back at a higher point, changing the proportions at the top and bottom sections to provide a sportier, more aggressive appearance while blending effortlessly into the reshaped bonnet.

The F Sport model spindle grille features an exclusive three-dimensional F-mesh pattern with jet-black metallic coating that incorporates functional brake ducts.

At the rear, subtle changes include a more pronounced L-shaped LED light guides with a triple layering feature in the taillight housing, new rectangular exhaust tips and redesigned rear diffuser.

New 10-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels for the entry-level Luxury variant feature revised spoke designs and bright machine finishes, while the top-spec Sports Luxury model scores redesigned 18-inch wheels.

Inside, the most noticeable update is the new multimedia screen, which has increased in size from 7 to 10.3 inches. The new high resolution display runs the latest Lexus multimedia system. “Enter” buttons have been added to the sides of the Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) on the centre console to boost user functionality.

The audio and ventilation control panel has also been refined to fit completely within the enlarged knee bolsters with a new “hairline-finish surface” that aims to provide visual appeal while also giving a high quality feel.

New stitching on the dashboard and refined instrumentation deliver an additional sporty feel, while new cup holder designs that are reshaped to also house larger smart phones, a larger leather-wrapped palm rest and new markings for the in-dash analogue clock provide additional convenience and luxury touches.

Two new exterior colours – Deep Blue MC and Graphite Black (replaces Starlight Black) – join the existing colour palette which includes Caliente, Mercury Grey, Onyx, Premium Silver, Sonic Quartz, Titanium and Vermillion.
