Nissan developing smaller sports car to sit below 370Z

Nissan is said to be planning a smaller sports car to sit beneath the Nissan GT-R and the Z. Speaking to reporters at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, Nissan Executive Vice President, Andy Palmer said a concept for the new model will debut within a year.

Although he coy about details of the upcoming vehicle, he compared the third sports car in Nissan’s line-up to the famous British spread made from yeast extract, “It’s like Marmite, you’ll love it or hate it”.

He also pointed out that it won’t be a Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S rival. Instead, it will be a youth-oriented model, similar in spirit to the Nissan Juke. The entry level sports car will likely to feature some sort of electrified powertrain, as Palmer described the car as “guilt-free.”

Perhaps the 2011 Nissan ESFLOW Concept show above will provide us with a pointer to how the car might look.
