Mercedes Reveals Facelifted 2013 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet

It was only a month ago when the revised E-Class sedan and wagon were revealed, now Mercedes is set to lift the cover off two new facelifted models from the same range, the 2013 E-Class coupe and cabriolet, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that will be held from January 14 to 27, 2013.

Gone are the quad headlights of the old model and in their place is a pair of streamlined one-piece headlights. A new grille and redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes complete the new front fascia. It is pretty much the same story at the rear with new LED taillights and restyled bumper.

Subtle changes in the cabin include updated dials and instruments behind the steering wheel, a new Drive Select lever to replace the shift lever in the pre-facelift model and redesigned air vents and centre console.

Both coupe and cabriolet will get a range of improved fuel efficiency engines. The petrol range starts with the 181 hp (135 kW) turbocharged 2-0-liter  for the base E200, followed by a high-output version of the same engine with 208 hp (155 kW) for the E250. A 3.5-litre V6 with 302 hp (225 kW) will power the E350. Topping the range is the E550 with a 402 hp (300 kW) 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8.

The diesel line-up starts with the base E200 CDI with a 134 hp (100 kW) 2.1-liter 4-cylinder turbo, followed by two high output variants of the same powerplant in the form of E220 CDI with 168 hp (125 kW) and the E250 CDI with 201 hp (150 kW).

All models can be equipped with a six-speed manual or an updated seven-speed automatic that has been tweaked for improved efficiency.

The coupe and cabriolet will also get Mercedes’ new agility control suspension that automatically adapts to different road surface by adjusting the dampers to give a smooth and sporty ride.

The facelifted E-Class coupe and cabriolet are due to arrive in Australia in September 2013, along with the updated sedan and wagon versions.
