Mercedes has released new details on the G500 4×42 concept, which will make its official debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

While not as outrageous as the G63 AMG 6×6, the G500 is touted as a “near-series” concept and features the all-wheel-drive powertrain, including the portal axles, from the 6×6. It sits on a new variable chassis with adaptive dampers wrapped in the series production G-Class body.

Power comes from a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine that develops 310kW with side exiting exhaust. Mercedes is still keeping the specifications under wraps but said the new engine was chosen as it meets the Euro 6 emission standards.

Outside, the G500 gets AMG front bumper, carbon fibre flares and a roof-mounted LED light bar. To ensure it performs just as competently off-road, the concept has stainless steel underbody guards and 22-inch wheels wrapped in 325/55 R 22 off-road tyres.

It has 450mm of ground clearance, a fording depth of 1000mm and an approach and departure angle of 52-deg and 54-deg, respectively.

No interior images have been release by the Stuttgart-based carmaker, but Mercedes says the concept has design leather seats with diamond quilted DINAMICA accents.

While the G500 4×42 is officially a concept, we won’t be surprised if it makes production.
