Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe gets stealthy Night Edition

Mercedes-Benz is adding a stealthy Night Edition to its flagship S-Class Coupe range. Set to debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next month, the Night Edition will be offered in S400 or S500 guises.

The Night treatment brings a host of exclusive details to the large luxury coupe including a set of unique 20-inch black and machined lipped AMG wheels, AMG body kit as well as gloss black mirror caps, side sill panels and front grille.

Completing the Night out theme are the Night Edition badges behind the front wheel fenders and the optional Selenite Grey Magno exterior colour, a deep matte tone designed to set off the Night Edition’s special details.

Inside, the Night Edition gets high-gloss poplar wood veneer on the dashboard, centre console and door trims. The AMG sport seats are covered in Nappa leather available in either standard black or three optional two-toned themes. The Night Edition emblem engraved on the AMG steering wheel provides the finishing touch.

The special edition kicks off with the S400 4Matic, which gets its power from a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine developing 270kW and 500Nm. Driving all four wheels, the luxury coupe sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250km/h.

The Night Edition is also applied to the upper-spec S500. Powered by a 4.7-litre biturbo V8 engine serving up 335kW and 700Nm, the S500 launches from rest to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds, en route to a top speed of 250km/h.

Mercedes will start rolling out the Night Edition S-Class coupe in Europe in early 2017, with North America expected to follow suit later in the year. It is yed to be confirmed if the special edition model will be heading to Australian shores.
