Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the AMG Vision Gran Turismo, designed especially for the virtual world. It is one supercar that almost everybody can drive, if they have a PlayStation 3 game console. The car will be part of the “Vision Gran Turismo” series of vehicles in the upcoming Gran Turismo 6 video game.

Although not destined for the roads, Mercedes-Benz has built a 1:1 scale model for the opening of their Research & Development Centre in Sunnyvale, California on 19 November. The virtual concept is powered by a 430kW and 800Nm AMG biturbo V8 wrapped in sensual contours, extreme proportions and hallmark Mercedes gullwing doors. Another eye-catching feature is the variable LED grilles with different light patterns.

Inside, the two-seater cabin is inspired by the Formula 1 cockpit. The red integral sports seats blend into the black flooring of the footwell to form a protective shell. Although no photos have been released, Mercedes said the dashboard has been designed in the form of two gullwing doors which are positions on each side of the steering column. As a result, the actual doors themselves appear to be an extension of the instrument panel.

The centre display floats above the racing steering wheel providing all the necessary data while operation is handle via the rocker switches placed in the dashboard’s centre, as well as in an overhead console.

With an aluminium space frame body and components made of carbon fibre, the car tips the scale at 1,384kg and is equipped with AMG’s high-performance ceramic composite brakes. An AMG sports exhaust system with eight tailpipes integrated into the rear end ensures a sonorous soundtrack when given the prod.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo is available as a downloadable content exclusively for Gran Turismo 6 when it arrives in stores on 6 December.
