McLaren’s 911 slaying 336kW P13 arriving in 2015

With McLaren ambitious plan to be taken seriously, the company is about to hatch a 3rd model after the well-received MP4-12C and recently launched P1 supercar. The McLaren P13 will take inspiration from the P1 but will be priced lower than the MP4-12C, at least in Britain.

According to a recent report by Auto Express, the McLaren P13 will cost £120,000 and dishes out 336kW (450bhp), with its sight set squarely at the Porsche 911.

It will be based around the same carbon fibre monocoque as its more expensive siblings, but with a shortened wheelbase for a more compact proportion and corresponding weight savings. That means it will weigh even less than the already lightweight 1,434kg 12C. Significantly, it will tip the scale much less than the 1,600kg 911 Turbo.

Caught here undergoing development test, wearing a 12C body, according to an insider, the development work on the new entry-level McLaren, codenamed P13, is all done. Power is expected to come from a detuned version of the same 3.8-litre turbocharged V8 found under the 12C. The P13 is expected to go on sale in 2015.
