McLaren and Honda have returned to the track together with the McLaren-Honda MP4-30.

Set to hit the tracks in the 2015 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season with Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button behind the wheels, the MP4-30 is powered by Honda’s RA615H 1.6-litre V6 engine.

Its monocoque chassis is made of carbon fibre composite, incorporating driver controls and fuel cell, back up by a cockpit survival cell with impact resistant construction and anti-penetration panels, front impact structure, prescribed side impact structures, integrated rear impact structure and front and rear roll structures.

The car’s bodywork is constructed of carbon fibre composite, including its engine cover, sidepods, floor, nose, front wing and rear wing with driver-operated drag reduction system.

It is equipped with front and rear carbon fibre wishbone suspensions – front using pushrod suspension elements operating inboard torsion bar and damper system, and rear using pullrod suspension elements.

The car tips the scales at just 702kg (including driver, but excluding fuel), with a 45.5/46.5 front to back weight distribution.

Honda says: “The MP4-30 is an important first step as McLaren and Honda progress towards a successful future and a strong partnership.”
