After a string of on-again off-again rumour about Mazda’s upcoming rotary-revival sports car, the Japanese brand has finally cleared the cloud with a teaser image of a low-slung concept car.

Set to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, the concept previews Mazda’s long-speculated Wankel rotary-powered sports cars. The silhouette reveals a car with a long bonnet, roof bumps and round tail-lights, all hallmarks of the company’s RX line of sports cars.

While details of the concept are scarce, Mazda has previously hinted at an RX-7 replacement with electric-hybrid technology. The new generation rotary engine is said to be larger in capacity and lighter.
