Mazda CX-5 Revealed – Zooming to a Showroom Near You in 2012

Here’s the production version of the Mazda Minagi Concept, and damn, it looks good! It will be known as the Mazda CX-5 and will sit comfortably below the larger CX-7 to take on the likes of RAV 4 and VW Tiguan.

The CX-5 is the first production model to adopt Mazda’s new ‘Kodo – Soul of Motion’ design language that was showcased in the Minagi and Shinari concepts. The CX-5 has largely stayed true to its concept, especially the prominent front fascia and fluid lines, which the company says conveys “a strong sense of vitality and agility”.

It is built on an all new platform that promises precise response and a high-quality ride while providing outstanding environmental and safety performance.  It is also the first Mazda model to adopt the full range of the company’s efficient SKYACTIV technologies.

Under the bonnet, there is a choice of SKYACTIV-G petrol 2.0-litre engine or SKYACTIV-D 2.2-litre diesel. They are configured in two states of tuned – Standard and High Power, which emits less than 120g/km of CO2.

The Mazda CX-5 will make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and on sale globally in 2012.
