Maserati Quattroporte GTS poses fire risk

MASERATI-Burnt-crisp-recall-4

Maserati Enthusiasts look away now!

It’s unfortunate to see a luxurious vehicle such as the Quattroporte GTS burn to a crisp however it appears as though the root cause of its spontaneous combustion has finally been found.

The fire has been attributed to an improperly installed battery positive terminal going to the alternator and starter motor. The incorrect installation can cause the terminal to short to ground resulting in rapid overheating of the wire leading to fire.

Maserati North America have identified 984 Quattroporte GTS V8 models manufactured between October 1st and December 31st 2013 that may contain the issue and have issued recall statements accordingly. Dealers have been instructed to inspect the protective cap for installation anomalies and secure/replace any suspect cables.

The recall has been set to commence as of the 11th of November 2015. Owners will be notified by Maserati if their vehicles are affected.
