Lexus is expanding the IS sedan range with a new 2.0-litre turbo powered variant.

Following the launch of NX 200t in early 2015 and the announced arrival of RX 200t by the end of the year, the IS is the third Lexus model to be fitted with this new engine.

The new 2.0 turbo four in the Lexus IS 200t delivers 180kW and 350Nm. Matched with a 8-speed automatic transmission, the IS 200t sprints from rest to 100km/h in 7.0 seconds. Average fuel consumption is a matching 7.0L/100km.

Featuring water-cooled cylinder head, integrated exhaust manifold and twin scroll turbocharger, the all-new 2.0-litre turbo engine promises to deliver fast throttle response, performance and high torque at low engine revs. For enhanced fuel economy, the engine is able to switch between the Otto and Atkinson cycles.

The engine also employs an air to liquid intercooler mounted directly to the engine to significantly reduce the intake volume downstream of the turbocharger, minimising turbo lag for better response.

The new Lexus IS 200t will replace the current 2.5-litre V6 IS 250 variant for the Australian market and arrives in September. Pricing and local specification will be announced closer to launch.
