Late last year, Lexus confirmed its interest in joining Australia’s V8 Supercars racing series, citing it has participated in “high level” discussions with the racing organisers. Progressing further, the Japanese premium marque told Motoring Australia last week it was taking this year to decide whether it wants to race in the V8 Supercars series or GT3 championships.

Lexus is considering racing the recently launched GS F in the V8 Supercars series, while the RC F will be called to duty if Lexus goes down the GT3 path.

The V8 Supercars grid currently consists of Holden, Ford, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. Lexus Australia said the introduction of a brand new 5.0-litre V8-engined GS F road car sparked the brand’s interest in participating in the series.

The RC F GT3 racing concept debuted in June last year. Vehicle testing has already begun this year, as Lexus intends to supply GT3-compliant RC F race cars to global racing teams by the end of 2015.

In gearing up interest for its motorsport activities, Lexus is providing the RC F as the V8 Supercar’s official Safety Car for the next two years. The agreement also sees the Lexus GS 350 F Sport supplied as a course car and the IS 350 F Sport as a medical car.
