Lexus Execs Planning for a New Halo Model

As the 500th and last Lexus LFA rolled out of the production line, Lexus is said to be already looking at building the company’s next halo car.

“If we want to build a more emotional brand, then we need a halo car”, said Lexus Executive Vice President Kazuo Ohara. Although no specific model was mentioned, Mr. Ohara hinted that the Japanese luxury marque is “seriously considering” a new flagship coupe.

Whilst some Lexus executives echoed Mr. Ohara’s call for a new halo model, there are also some in the company’s upper ranks that prefer a new entry level model to attract younger buyers rather than a flagship.

“You don’t see a lot of movement between brands in the luxury space, so it’s best to attract customers to your camp before they buy a rival product”, said Global Marketing Chief Mark Templin.

Whether it will be a new super car or a family hatch, one thing certain is that there will be interesting times ahead for Lexus.
