Kia K9 to be called ‘Quoris’ outside Korea

Kia’s first rear-wheel drive flagship, the K9 as it is known in the Korean domestic market, will be called the ‘Quoris’ when it goes on sale in overseas market later this year.

According to Kia’s Executive Vice President & COO of the International Business Division, Thomas Oh, the name is derived from the English words ‘core’ and ‘quality’. Not sure about you, but maybe they pronounce those words differently in Korea, as I could not see the connection!

However, one thing that is clear is the K9, which went on sale in Korea in early May signifies Kia’s coming of age from its humble beginnings. It showcases Kia’s design and technical abilities and challenges the more established players.

As befitting its luxury status, the K9, or Quoris, depending on where you call home, is laden with advanced technologies. Features like radar-based Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Heads-Up Display, Collision Avoidance System, Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assistance and Around View Monitor are standard.

Sadly for people who call Australia home, the Quoris won’t be making an appearance down under.
